WESTSIDE AMENITY PARK PLANS PROCEED WITHOUT RUNNING TRACK
Date Published: 15-Nov-2012
Cllrs have expressed their disappointment that a running track which had been part of a master plan for Westside Amenity Park is to be decommissioned.
Half a million euro is now available to fund the project for which plans were passed unanimously by Cllrs at this week’s meeting.
The project had initially been set to take place during the course of the Seamus Quirke Road project, however was delayed due to funding difficulties.
The entire master plan is estimated to cost in the region of 1.4 million euro which would leave a shortfall of 900 thousand euro.
It will now be completed on a phased basis with the first priority to complete the groundwork for the training pitch, GAA pitch and soccer pitch with the available 500 thousand euro.
Director of Services Ciaran Hayes says the running track must be decommissioned to make way for the GAA pitch which is long awaited by St Michaels after the club was discommoded due to work on Seamus Quirke.
He says he hopes the tender process will commence in January with an estimated completion timeframe for the pitches of Autumn 2013.
Cllr Ollie Crowe says it’s a fantastic facility for the Westside which Cllrs have been pushing for for some time now.
