Date Published: 27-Sep-2008
Residents campaigning aganist a housing development on the Mercy Sisters land in Taylor’s Hill are broadening out their campaign
This weekend they are collecting signatures at all the city’s shopping centres and on Shop Street calling for the St Anne’s site to be made into a public park
The housing plans were given the go ahead by the city council planners, but it’s now under appeal to an Bord Pleanala on the basis of loss of green space, excessive density and traffic problems
At a council meeting earlier this week councillors requested city officials to meet with the Mercy nuns to ask them to donate the site for a park free of charge or to sell it for a reasonable price
In the meantime spokesperson for the local residents campaigning against the houses Sybil Curley says they have had a great response so far to their city wide petition
