Tannian out of Dublin clash
Date Published: 22-Mar-2011

MIDFIELD duo Ger Farragher and David Burke are both injury worries for the Galway hurlers ahead of their fascinating National League showdown against table toppers Dublin at Parnell Park this Sunday (2:30pm).
Dead ball specialist Farragher sustained a dead leg in a training session in Ballinasloe on Sunday morning, while Burke picked up a nasty gash on his shin in St. Thomas’ surprise U-21 championship defeat to Athenry last weekend.
Added to this, Beagh’s Joe Gantley aggravated a groin injury against Kilkenny in Galway’s last outing and his training has been restricted over the past week. Galway manager John McIntyre, though, is optimistic that Gantley will be available for selection
Already without a plethora of players through injury, Galway can ill afford to lose any more regulars, especially as full-forward Iarla Tannian will miss the Dublin game due to a family wedding in the United States.
Among those still out are the attacking trio of Joe Canning, Damien Hayes and Aidan Harte. However, another long term injury victim, Sarsfields’ Kevin Hynes is “getting closer to being involved”, according to McIntyre, having played a number of club games recently.
A couple of players do return for this game, though. Craughwell’s Adrian Cullinane has recovered from a dead leg which forced his withdrawal from the Kilkenny match, while Turloughmore defender Fergal Moore (ankle) and Sarsfields’ Joseph Cooney (thumb) are back in full training.
