A Donegal based healthcare company is at an advanced stage of negotiations to take over Owen Riff nursing home in Oughterard.

Brindley Healthcare, which operates five HIQA registered residential care homes in Donegal, Mayo and Kildare, is in final talks to overtake the operation of the Oughterard nursing home.

In a statement to Galway Bay FM News, Michael Keane representing the healthcare company said,

"Brindley Healthcare can confirm that it is in advanced negotiations to acquire Owenriff Nursing Home in Oughterard. In tandom with these negotiations, Brindley Healthcare has sought registration from HIQUA. A decision is expected in the very near future. We have no further comment at this time."

The news of the acquisition comes after HIQA’s recent investigation report which raised grave concerns for the welfare and safety of residents at Owen Riff nursing home.

The owners of the 40 bed facility recently withdrew their appeal to a closure order issued by the District Court last month.

The HSE was then directed to take charge and to make alternative arrangements for the residents as soon as is practicable.

Councillor Padraig Conneely, who’s chairman of the HSE West Regional Forum, says the acquisation of Owen Riff nursing home by Brindley Healthcare would be a positive step.
