Soulful ‘roots rock’ sound of The Deans

Date Published: 19-May-2011

Blues-rock trio The Deans bring their combination of melodic vocal harmonies and a heavy-hitting rhythm section to Monroe’s Live in Galway this Friday night.

The well-travelled group is composed of Athenry duo Gavin Dean and Gary Keon, and Dublin’s Chris Byrne. They have toured extensively since they formed in 2007, playing at a number of festivals in France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Holland.

As their popularity in Europe gathered momentum, they obliged the organisers of the famous Guitare-en-Scene festival in France by performing there at the 43rd anniversary of the event in 2009. Their soulful sounds have also gained considerable popularity at home despite the band spending much time of the road since they got together.

Their music has been described by their vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Gavin Dean as “roots rock” that provides a soundtrack for his romantic notions, tales of travel and an indefatigable lust for life.

They released their first single, Worried All The Time, last year, when it successfully breached the Top 40 of the official Irish charts – the highest-ranking independent entry for the month of November.

A further release is planned for later this year and the group has its eyes set on the United States, where it has plans to tour before the end of the year.

The Deans perform at Monroe’s Live venue on Dominick Street at 10pm this Friday, May 20.
