SHOCK AT REVELATION CITY COUNCIL HAS MONEY TO BUY HOUSES IT RENEGED ON
Date Published: 13-Jul-2007
There’s shock and outrage at today’s revelation that the City Council DOES have the money to buy the houses in the deal they reneged on with 25 private house owners
Galway West TD Frank Fahey has learned from the Housing Minister that the City Council now has 45 million euro in total to spend on housing
The City Council claimed it had to back out of the deal, which caused severe distress to the home owners involved, because it didn’t have the money.
However it has now been shown that at that time the council had in fact half the amount needed for the deal – 20 million euro allocated from the Department of the Environment in April
It’s also understood there were breakdowns in communication in the original funding process involving staff from BOTH the Department and the City Council
The additional money needed – 20 million has now been allocated by the Department
