Recruitment underway for 200 gaming centre jobs
Date Published: 27-Jun-2011
BY CIARAN TIERNEY
Recruitment is underway to fill many of the 200 jobs which are due to come on stream at the EA BioWare electronic gaming centre on the east side of the city.
BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts (EA), chose the city as its European customer centre of excellence last year and set up home at the Galway Technology Centre in Mervue after viewing a number of potential locations.
Recruitment is underway for English, French, and German language customer service representatives, programme managers, and specialist IT positions for the multi-national, which confirmed plans to set up a ‘studio’ here in May of last year.
While many of the new recruits will have IT and electronics backgrounds, the company is also said to be interested in sourcing young people with a huge interest in computer games.
“We are up and running and are quite actively hiring at the moment,” confirmed a spokesperson for the corporation yesterday.
The aim of setting up the Galway plant is to give BioWare closer access to fans of its games in Europe, according to Ray Muzyka, Group General Manager of BioWare.
“Galway gives us the right mix of solid technology infrastructure and international recruitment opportunities,” he said.
The company spokesperson declined to reveal how many of the 200 jobs projected for the plant had been filled at this stage, but said that they intended to move to a bigger plant – also on the east side of the city – when contacted by the Sentinel.
