PRESSURE TO FAST-TRACK SAVITA REPORT FOLLOWING LEAKS
Date Published: 13-Feb-2013
Opposition parties have called on the government to fast track the publication of the report into the death of Savita Halappanavar, following today’s leaks.
Leaked extracts of a draft report by the investigation team – seen by The Evening Herald – say the blood infection that contributed to the 31-year-old’s death went undiagnosed for three days at UHG.
And it says that staff at the hospital should have considered a termination to save her life.
31 year old Savita died at UHG on the 28th of October 2012, after suffering a miscarriage and contracting septicaemia.
Enda Kenny says the detail published in today’s paper is not the final report, and the Halappanavar family should be the first to receive it.
Earlier, Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin said the report should be published and debated in the Dáil – now that its been leaked.
Now, Sinn Féin’s Caoimghín O’Caoláin has backed these calls and says any lessons from its findings must be noted quickly
