ORANMORE TRADESMAN WINS CIVIL CASE AGAINST HUSBAND OF SENATOR HEALY EAMES
Date Published: 26-Jul-2012
The husband of Galway Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has been ordered to pay 12 thousand 400 euros to an Oranmore tradesman for non-payment of work carried out at the couple’s home in Maree after he was taken off site in November.
Oranmore tradesman Michael Allen brought a civil case against Micheal Eames and his wife Fidelma Healy Eames for which the 2 day hearing has concluded in the last hour at Galway Civil Circuit Court.
Mr Allen had claimed that when additional costs were taken into account including work on the garage, he was owed just under 23 thousand.
Making his ruling this afternoon, Judge Rory McCabe said “the fact that the defendant tried to rewrite a contract and force the plaintiff to accept a new deal at less than the agreed price speaks for itself”.
He ordered that Michael Eames pay 12 thousand 400 euro to Mr Allen and said while it was reasonable to sue Fidelma Healy Eames, he dismissed the action against her as the second named defendant in the case as he was satisfied she wasn’t “intimately involved or even peripherally involved”.
He also dismissed a counter claim that the work carried out was not up to standard.
