Date Published: 15-Nov-2011

City officials have rejected out of hand accusations that the Seamus Quirke road upgrade and the N6 roundabouts conversions have given rise to a litany of errors.

Cllr Padraig Conneely told last night’s city council meeting the delayed Seamus Quirke road project has gone from costing 9 million to 15 million euro.

He and several other councillors accused officials of trying to cover up the fact that part of the N6 work is in violation of the city development plan.

Director of Services Ciaran Hayes said it is not possible to anticipate everything that can happen with a project until you go in with the digger.

He said in the case of Seamus Quirke road a utility facility was not where it should have been but he reassured Peter Keane that the utility company concerned is being pursued for that cost.
