OCCUPY GALWAY VOW TO PROTECT IRELAND’S REMAINING CAMP
Date Published: 17-Apr-2012
The strong sense of community spirit in the Occupy Galway camp will ensure it continues to maintain its presence as Ireland’s only such remaining encampment.
That’s according to the Eyre Square protestors who had a strong presence at last night’s meeting of the city council.
The group is now six months in its city centre base and has moved to defend claims that it is impacting on Galway’s image.
Camps in Dublin and Cork were dismantled last month and City Councillor Padraig Conneely has now increased pressure on city officials to follow Waterford’s lead, where the local authority moved on its Quayside camp in a 40 minute operation some weeks ago.
However, speaking to Galway Bay fm news, occupier Chris Duignan says the Eyre Square camp is now an important part of the city and its history
