NO INCREASE PLANNED TO CITY COMMERCIAL RATE
Date Published: 05-Dec-2011
The City Council is not expected to increase commercial rates in its Budget for 2012.
The draft budget of just over 81 million euro will be discussed at a Special City Council Budget meeting next Monday. [Dec12]
It’s proposed to leave the commercial rate the same at 65 euro and 46 cent.
There are also no plans to increase parking charges in the city – the daily rate remains at 5 euro with an hourly on-street parking rate of 2 euro 60cent.
The draft budget states however, that consideration will be given to revising the charging regime at the Dyke Road carpark.
The Council is proposing to increase water charges for businesses by 25 cent to 2euro and 25 cent per cubic metre.
It’s proposed to revise the waiver scheme for waste management from 250 euro to 159 euro, saving the Council around 150 thousand euro.
The City Council has not received any notification of its Local Government Fund for 2012, but it’s estimated to be reduced by about 10 percent to around 6.8 million euro.
The Draft Budget also makes provision for additional expenditure in 2012.
These include expenditure on the Volvo Ocean Race Finale and loan charges for Ballinfoile/Castlegar Community Centre, Galway Main Drainage and the Séamus Quirke Road project.
