NEED FOR BUS PROMOTION HIGHLIGHTED IN GALWAY SURVEY
Date Published: 01-Sep-2009
There’s not enough being done to promote the use of buses in Galway and more people are using cars in Galway City as a result.
That’s according to a recent survey undertaken by the Galway Chamber Traffic and Transportation Forum.
It surveyed 200 secondary school children attending 3 of Galway’s largest secondary schools to establish how people travelled to and from school and their attitude to public transport.
94 per cent of those interviewed felt that more should be done to promote bus usage.
The survey found that the main issues affecting students confidence in buses were that there were not enough buses, they were not punctual, they were overcrowded and the bus stops were not suitable.
Safety on school buses was also a concern of those interviewed due to the condition of the buses and the attitude of many of the drivers.
