Date Published: 19-Oct-2009

Concerned residents in Monivea say they will picket county council offices if a court injunction is not served on a landowner who is allegedly clearing land illegally on Kilskeagh hill.

The ‘Kilskeagh Action group’ held an emergency public meeting last night following claims that the landowner cleared land at the site over the weekend.

They say the work being carried out is illegal, and want the landowner to go down the proper channels.

The site was the subject of controversy in August when Galway County council issued an enforcement notice against the landowner after several acres of agricultural land on Kilskeagh Hill were cleared without permission.

Ballinasloe Area councillors will meet with County Manager Martina Maloney and senior personell after 9 this morning to seek the injunction.
