MAYOR OF GALWAY GATHERS SUPPORT TO REVERSE NORRIS DECISION
Date Published: 19-Jul-2011
Mayor of Galway, Hildegarde Naughton, says she has almost garnered enough support to reverse a decision preventing Senator David Norris making a presentation to Galway City Council.
At the last meeting of the Council earlier this month, Mayor Naughton claims she made a ‘mistake’ in using her casting vote to prevent Senator Norris speaking as part of his Presidential Campaign.
Following the meeting, Mayor Naughton, hastily sought to have the decision she made, regarding Senator Norris’ presentation reversed.
Other Councillors claim there was no ‘misunderstanding’ and that Mayor Naughton knew what she was voting for.
In order to reverse the decision, a special meeting of the Council must take place and a revote taken.
Mayor Naughton confirmed to Galway Bay fm News that she has secured 8 of the 10 votes needed to reverse the decision.
Mayor Naughton is trying to contact some Councillors who are away on holidays in a bid to schedule a special meeting on the vote, however it’s not expected to take place this week.
