Date Published: 05-Jun-2008
Children, the middle aged and the elderly in Galway are being affected by eating disorders such as Anorexia or Bulimia
That’s according to a report exploring the treatment of people with eating disorders published by the HSE West this week.
The report-Eating Disorders; Best Practice Guidelines for Dieticians, was jointly compiled by the Department of Health, NUI Galway and the Community Nutrition and Dietetic Service of the HSE West.
Findings revealed eating disorders ARE most common among young women but can also affect other age groups and a minority of men.
The report also showed there are no standard national policies or protocols developed in Ireland for the nutritional management of eating disorders.
Best practice guidelines have been drawn up to assist the HSE in planning client focused nutrition and dietetic services for patients.
