KIRWAN ROUNDABOUT VOTE STILL CAUSING TENSION IN COUNCIL CHAMBER

Date Published: 04-Dec-2012

City councillors have unanimously agreed a plan to develop a pedestrian and cyclist connection from the N6 Dublin road to the Dyke Road

It’s part of the N6 multi modal corridor scheme and is being done despite councillors’ decision to reject the conversion of the Kirwan

roundabout into a signalised junction

However that controversial vote from last month led to more tensions at last night’s city council meeting

Cllr Billy Cameron said the future of traffic management in the city depends on the multi modal corridor being fully built

He told Director of Services Ciaran Hayes a ‘do nothing’ policy on the Menlo Park hotel roundabout is not an option

Mr Hayes’ challenge to the councillors to go and find a solution better than the one he had presented last month was branded ‘outrageous’ and there were loud calls for him to withdraw it

Cllr Frank Fahy said ‘on your salary you need to come up with better than that’ while Cllr Padraig Conneely said he’d hire his own consultant and get the council to pay the bill
