KILSKEAGH RESIDENTS ANGRY AT COUNCIL’S RESPONSE TO ALLEGED ILLEGAL CLEARING AT QUARRY
Date Published: 19-Oct-2009
Local residents near Kilskeagh Hill, Monivea are reacting angrily to news that the County Council cannot seek a court injunction over alleged illegal activity at an old quarry.
Director of Planning with the County Council, Paul Ridge, made the announcement at a meeting of the Council today.[19/10]
It’s alleged illegal land clearing is taking place by the landowner at the site at Killskeagh Hill.
The ‘Kilskeagh Action group’ held an emergency public meeting last night following claims that the landowner cleared land at the site over the weekend.
Director Ridge told the Council meeting today, that legal advice was sought on the matter and a court injunction would be “unsuitable” at this time.
He said it was a difficult decision to make as the person involved was not present at the meeting with the County Manager earlier.
Paul Ridge added that the Council “would pursue the activity at Killskeagh to the best of its ability.”
Almost 20 concerned local residents attended the meeting and walked out angrily when the news was relayed by the Director.
