JUDGE SAYS HE WONT BE BULLIED IN GALWAY SHOPLIFTING CASE
Date Published: 19-Feb-2009
A Circuit Court judge has warned a shoplifting mother who made racist remarks to a Garda that he does not like being bullied by her into suspending a prison sentence on account of her two children.
Judge Raymond Groarke has given 35 year old Miriam Adedosu of 37 Clochard, Rahoon, one week to make arrangements for the care of her two children.
Earlier this month, Adedosu was sentenced to 4 months in prison at the District Court, but she appealled the sentence to the Circuit Court.
Garda Fiona White told the appeal hearing that Adedosu took the hand- beaded dress from the Treasure Chest on William Street, Galway and left the store with two other women.
When Garda White confronted Adedosu as she left a Monsoon shop nearby, Adedosu screamed at her, “You are only doing this because I am coloured.”
She then dragged Garda White into Monsoon, pushing her against a rail
of clothes and the garda dragged the woman back out onto the street.
Adjourning the appeal to next Tuesday, February 24, Judge Groarke said
he did not like being bullied and he had the distinct impression that
was what was happening.
