ICSA makes call to allow single farm applications through city district office
Date Published: 27-Apr-2013
The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association is calling on the Agriculture Minister to allow Galway farmers submit their single farm payment applications through their local DVO office.
The deadline for applications under the scheme is in three weeks time.
Due to some reforms in the system, farmers nationwide are asked to use the online facility or alternatively Galway-based farmers would have to travel to Portlaoise.
The Galway District Veterinary Office (DVO) is now based in Lakeshore Drive in Renmore in the city, however it no longer accepts such applications under the new system.
Pat Loughnane is representative for the Galway branch of the ICSA.
He says many middle aged farmers in the region are not familiar with the online facility and many more are too concerned with the fodder crisis to find time to travel to Portlaoise.
