FORMER MAYOR OF COUNTY GALWAY SLAMS GREENSTAR APPLICATION
Date Published: 18-Mar-2008
Former Mayor of County Galway, Michael Mullins, has lodged a formal objection against plans by Greenstar to lift a regional restriction at the Kilconnell landfill in East Galway.
Greenstar has applied for permission to lift a planning condition imposed on the landfill in 2003, preventing the company from accepting waste from other regions.
Councillor Mullins’ objection is one of several objections made by locals in East Galway who are against the latest plans.
Some locals claim the gas emissions from the landfill are “dreadful” and that Greenstar has already reached its quota of waste per year and would not be able to accept anymore.
Councillor Michael Mullins claims any “alteration to the original planning permission will seriously erode public confidence in the planning process.”
County planners are due to make a decision about the Kiconnell landfill before the 6th of April
