FOCUS ON BLOOD TEST DELAYS AND BLOOD PLATELETS AT SAVITA INQUEST
Date Published: 11-Apr-2013
A consultant haematologist has concluded her opinion evidence given at day four of the inquest into the death of Savita Halappanavar.
Her attendance followed a request from Coroner Ciaran MacLoughlin earlier today who sought clarification on the process of giving B positive platelets to a Bnegative patient.
An earlier witness statement from an ICU nurse stated that B positive platelets were approved to be given to Ms. Halappanavar as long as she had anti-d.
A microbiologist has said it would be of concern to her that a blood sample from Savita Halappanavar took over three hours to reach the laboratory for testing.
However Consultant Deirbhile Keady has told the 31 year old’s inquest that the right antibiotics were administered even before the results which showed the presence of infection became known.
The inquest has now concluded and will resume again tomorrow morning for the fifth day of proceedings.
