CITY COUNCIL LAUNCHES NEW PRICING STRUCTURE FOR REFUSE COLLECTION

Date Published: 13-Dec-2012

Galway City Council has officially launched its new pricing structure for domestic refuse collection.

The price plan will see the introduction of a fixed flat rate of 229 euro which will take effect from next month.

The new pricing structure means customers with three wheelie bins -(brown, green and grey) are guaranteed to pay no more than 229 euro.

Bins will still be weighed on collection and if they weight less, customers pay less.

It comes as City Officials earlier this week defended the council’s household waste management and its efforts to make the refuse service more price competitive.

Director of Services for the Environment Kevin Swift addressed Cllrs at this week’s budget meeting and advised that the cost of waste management has been reduced by 40 percent over five years.

He said the plan to offer the option of a fixed annual charge of 229 euro is in a bid to remain competitive.

Cllrs were advised that there are now 12 thousand local authority refuse customers compared to 22 thousand nine years ago.
