CITY CLLRS APPROVE CONDITIONAL FUNDING FOR GALWAY AIRPORT
Date Published: 08-Jan-2013
City Councillors have come to an agreement to allocate 50 thousand euro in funding to Galway Airport.
It follows a special meeting at City Hall last evening (Jan 8) where the future of the Carnmore facility was debated.
The allocation of 50 thousand euro is subject to a number of conditions.
These include the allocation of matching funding from the County Council as was agreed at its budget meeting last month, and the provision of a copy of a viable business plan for the airport.
Councillor Billy Cameron said the airport was a vital piece of infrastructure, and there would be a social dividend to providing the allocation.
City Councillor Padraig Conneely raised concerns during the meeting that he would be very reluctant to put public money into a private company.
He voted against the proposal put forward by Cllr Declan McDonnell and said he is eager to see a viable business plan.
