BURNT PORTUMNA HOTEL TO BE REBUILT
Date Published: 08-Sep-2011
Management of the hotel which was extensively damaged by fire in Portumna yesterday, say the plan is to rebuild.
The blaze broke at around 1p.m yesterday at the Shannon Oaks Hotel and Country Club and fire crews from Galway, Tipperary and Offaly rushed to the scene.
Throughout the night, three fire units stood by to dampen down the smouldering embers of the fire that destroyed the centre of the two-storey hotel.
It’s thought the fire started in the kitchen of the hotel, which employs around 60 staff.
Phone lines have been set up today to provide information to customers of the hotel.
The lodges on the grounds of the hotel are not affected by the fire.
Deputy C.E.O of the Delata Group which runs the Shannon Oaks Hotel, Stephen McNally, says they plan to rebuild.
