Date Published: 30-Nov-2009

A boil water notice has been put in place for many areas in the county.

Recent sampling results indicate the mid- Galway Regional Water Supply has become contaminated.

The scheme serves an extensive area from Abbeyknockmoy to the North, Ballydavid to the South, Brackloon to the East and Coolarn to the West.

It also includes Monivea and Colemanstown.

Group water schemes which are also fed from this supply are, Abbert, Ard Aoibhinn, Kiltullagh, Culliagh, Mira, Coolarne and the area South of the Galway to Dublin railway line.

The Boil notice has been implementted by the County Council on the advice of the HSE as the council feels that the treatment plant could be compromised.

They’re advising householders to ensure all water is boiled before use.

A map of the affected areas can be viewed on the County Council website.
