The Bishop of Galway Martin Drennan says a report to be officially published later today shows good safeguarding practice in the diocese and is a very significant day for the church.

The report is one of six nationwide to be issued by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church.

It examines files from 1975 to 2010 and has been three months in the making with the main field work completed in January.

The report finds good safeguarding practice in place, very committed personnel in parishes and also praises the leadership of priests.

It also notes that more records should be kept.

The report also refers to three priests against whom allegations have been made who are still in ministry.

Speaking on Galway Talks on Galway Bay fm Bishop Drennan says the concerns expressed were not of sufficient nature to warrant their removal from ministry.
