CONCERNS OVER ISSUING OF PERMITS FOR CITY CHARITY COLLECTIONS
Date Published: 15-Jan-2013
Concerns have been raised over the regulations surrounding the permits issued to charities operating within the city.
Cllr Michael Crowe told this week’s Joint Policing Committee meeting that the Catholic Church had contacted Gardai over the growing number of church gate collections.
Cllr Donal Lyons also presented a report from the Byelaw sub-committee where it was recommended that the law be changed so that collections authorised by a District Court licence would only be permitted in the area of the court issuing the licence.
Cllr Niall McNelis asked for a full explanation on the role of the Gardai in issuing permits and the rules surrounding charity groups selling tokens.
Garda Superintendent Marie Skehill told members that different stipulations are applied when permits are issued for church gate collections, street bucket collections, sponsorship cards and lottery or raffle.
