COUNCILLORS APPROVE CONTROVERSIAL CITY BUS LANE
Date Published: 15-Nov-2011
A controversial 200 metres bus lane has been approved for Rahoon Road in the city.
The proposal, which also includes a cycle lane has split residents in the area but last night councillors passed it 9 votes to 5 at a meeting of the City Council.
A funding application will now be made to the Department of Transport.
A total of ten submissions were made during the public consultation process
Objections centred on the removal of 40 to 50 trees, noise pollution, health and safety concerns, bad value for money and lack of connection to the new bus lanes on Bishop O’Donnell Road
Director of Services Ciaran Hayes told councillors these issues could be addressed by the 16 conditions imposed by planners
Meanwhile, Bus Eireann and City Direct are to be invited to the chamber in January to address councillors on their plans for the Seamus Quirke Road bus lanes.
