NUIG CAMPUS EXPANSION PLANS PROGRESSING
Date Published: 02-Jun-2009
NUI Galway’s plans for a major expansion of its campus in the city are half way there.
It’s got the go-ahead to build a new four-storey reseach building and car park at it’s University Hospital Galway campus.
The four-storey Research building will be built next to the existing Clinical Science Institute on the hospital grounds on Lower Newcastle Road.
The development will include links to the facade of the CSI building to the west and the hospital block to the north, and a roof screened plant area.
City planners have ordered it not to be occupied or opened until the new car park is fully built or until alternative parking space is provided within the hospital campus.
An Environmental Impact Statement must be implemented in full also.
The car park approved for the new Research building will be built next to the CSI building.
The existing car park to the east will be decommissioned, a new wall built to the north and the existing internal road within UHG grounds re-aligned.
