Fianna Fáil has taken two seats in Galway City West – sitting councillor Peter Keane and running mate John Connolly were both elected on the 13^th count without reaching the quota.

Following the distribution of John Crowley’s transfers, Fine Gael newcomer Clodagh Higgins also took a seat and was elected without reaching the quota.

Former mayor and sitting Fine Gael City Councillor Pearce Flannery was deemed to be excluded.

7th Count City West: Ó Conchúir eliminated

It would appear that Sinn Féin has lost all three seats on Galway City Council – with the elimination of Cllr Cathal Ó Conchúir on the seventh count for Galway City West.

While it has yet to be confirmed, due to a recount, all indications are that Cllr Mairéad Farrell has lost her seat in City East, while Cllr Mark Lohan was eliminated in City Central earlier today.

Cllr Ó Conchúir was eliminated with 473 votes, which are now to be redistributed.

Mayor Niall McNelis, following the redistribution of Independent candidate Marian Maloney’s votes, is now just 30 votes short of a quota.

Cllr Peter Keane looks set to take the fourth seat, following the election of Cllr Donal Lyons (Ind) and Pauline O’Reilly (Grn) earlier.

Fine Gael’s Clodagh Higgins is in prime position to take the fifth, while the sixth and final seat will be decided by transfers – with Fianna Fáil’s John Connolly and Fine Gael’s Pearce Flannery still in contention.

The Social Democrats’ John Crowley will likely be eliminated on the next count.
