CITY TRIBUNE
Zoom invite to Over the Edge
Veronica Volkow, Ailbhe Darcy and Kim Moore are the featured readers for July’s Over the Edge: Open Reading.
The event, which normally takes place in Galway City Library on the first Thursday of every month, transferred to Zoom last month, due to Covid-19 and was a great success.
This month’s event will also take place on Zoom next Thursday, July 9, at the usual time of 6.30-8pm. The usual Open-Mic will be held after the Featured Readers have finished, with new readers being especially welcome.
Kim Moore is one of the leading younger voices in British poetry, whose debut collection, 2015’s The Art of Falling, won the 2016 Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize. She won a Northern Writers Award in 2014, an Eric Gregory Award in 2011 and the Geoffrey Dearmer Prize in 2010. Currently studying for a PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University, she’s working on her second collection and is a judge for the 2020 Forward Prizes for Poetry.
Dubliner Ailbhe Darcy has published her poetry in Ireland, Britain and the US. Selections of her work are included in the Bloodaxe anthologies, Identity Parade and Voice Recognition. Imaginary Menagerie (Bloodaxe Books, 2011), her first full collection, was shortlisted for Ireland’s DLR Strong Award at Poetry Now / Mountains to Sea festival. Her second collection, Insistence, was published by Bloodaxe in 2018 and was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize that year and for the Irish Times Poetry Now Award 2019. Ailbhe has a PhD and MFA at the University of Notre Dame in the US, and taught there and at the University of Münster in Germany. She now lectures in creative writing at Cardiff University.
