Youth to the fore at annual Emily Anderson concert
Music for Galway’s annual concert in memory of Galway-born composer, linguist and British intelligence officer, Emily Anderson will take place next Thursday, March 21, at 8pm at NUIG.
Violinist Benjamin Baker with Daniel Lebhardt on piano, and another gifted pianist, 13-year-old Dubliner Joe O’Grady, will perform works from Beethoven and Mozart – marking the connection between Anderson and these musicians.
There’s a Dublin performance this year too, on Tuesday night at the National Concert Hall’s Kevin Barry Room.
Emily Anderson’s many achievements in a long and varied career included editing and translating the full correspondence of Mozart and, 10 years later, of Beethoven. Her work, done in the mid-20th Century, gave the English-speaking world a new insight into the lives and concerns of these giants of classical music.
