Galway Arts Centre’s youth-led visual art collective, Red Bird, will screen their new short film Glimpse of Galway in Galway Arts Centre at Nuns’ Island at 6pm, this Saturday, April 9.

Inspired by a Bord Fáilte travelogue, Glamour of Galway, which showcased Galway City in the 1950s, Red Bird members worked with visual artist, Louise Manifold, to document Galway in 2022. With an original script and authentic footage, Glimpse of Galway looks at Galway City and Lough Inagh Valley in Conamara. That’s home to the Interface studio and artists’ residency, run by Alannah Robbins, and Red Bird members worked with members of the Interface arts collective for this project.

At Saturday night’s event, Glamour of Galway will be screened first and will be followed by the premiere of Glimpse of Galway. After that, there will be panel discussion with Red Bird members, chaired by Louise Manifold. Refreshments will be provided and admission is free.

Red Bird is for anyone aged 15-24. It’s ideal for students who are interested in self-led art projects, writing, music and other art forms. It is also a good foundation for those wishing to further study the arts or for those who enjoy art as a hobby.
