It’s understood that the proposed works on the Galway Shopping Centre roundabout will be delayed until the New Year.

Work was due to begin this month, with Clare Civil Engineering the contractors lined up to remove the roundabout and have it fully controlled by traffic lights.

But now the work, which it’s expected will cause severe traffic disruption, may not get underway until 2013.

The transformation of the roundabout into a fully signalised junction is estimated to cost in the region of 2 million euro.

So far, roundabouts at Briarhill, Ballybane and the Tuam Road have all been converted under the NRA funded Bothar na dTreabh scheme.

It’s believed that works on the Shopping Centre roundabout have been delayed until the New Year because they would not have been completed in time for the Christmas shopping period.
