WORK TO BEGIN ON GORT BYPASS

Work is due to begin shortly on the 200 million euro Gort and Crusheen bypass.

The National Roads Authority has confirmed that a contract for the road has now been signed.

The consortium which has secured the contract is SIAC Wills JV.

The 23 kilometre dual carriageway will run from Ennis to Gort, bypassing both Crusheen and Gort.

The scheme is expected to drastically reduce journey times between Galway and Limerick.

This section of the Atlantic corridor is due to be complete by 2011
