WORK TO BEGIN IN MAY ON GAS CONNECTIONS FOR TUAM
Date Published: 06-Mar-2013
Work is expected to begin in May to connect Tuam town’s industry to the national gas grid.
Numerous pits will be opened in Tuam’s system of underground pipes to add “sleeve pipes” as part of the construction of the natural gas pipeline to Tuam.
Tuam Town Council was also informed that An Bord Gais will give a presentation of its plans to the Town Council in the coming weeks.
Town Engineer Enda Gallagher informed the Town Council that the pits to insert the “sleeve pipes” will be dug at distances of approximately 50 metres.
He said the work would be completed in two or three months and this was for large businesses who may want to be connected to the gas grid.
In reply to a question from Cllr Imelda Kelly, the town engineer said work currently taking place which entailed digging at some locations in the town was for the resealing of cracks in some of the older underground pipes.
He added that this was being done by a specialist company and had nothing to do with Coffeys or the town’s ‘Big Dig.’
