Women account for 100 percent of counselling services at Tuam cancer care centre

Galway bay fm newsroom – Women accounted for 100 % of counselling services at the Tuam cancer care centre last year.

The Irish cancer society’s report on its national counselling grants programme, also shows that 30% of those who used the service were bereaved due to cancer.

Meanwhile, 90% of all clients were between the ages of 41 and 60.

The Tuam centre is one of 17 community-based cancer support services nationwide funded by The Irish Cancer Society’s affiliation programme.

Nationally, almost a quarter of cancer patients are seeking counselling having suffered trauma or stress.
