Two units of Galway Fire Service were called out to rescue a woman from the water in the city last night.

The woman entered the water near the Wolfe Tone Bridge shortly after 9pm.

Four members of the water rescue team from the fire service trawled through the water to try and locate the woman.

However, it’s understood she escaped from the water with the help of Gardaí further up, at the Salom Weir Bridge.

The woman was not seriously injured as a result of the ordeal.
