WOMAN REMANDED IN CUSTODY OVER SALTHILL MURDER

A 30 year old woman has been remanded in custody in connection with the murder of Kevin Joyce in Salthill over the bank holiday weekend.
Maura Thornton of Apartment 1, 183 Upper Salthill was remanded to the Courts of Criminal Justice next Tuesday August the 9th at Galway District Court this morning.
The victim of Sunday night’s murder has been named locally as 59 year old Kevin Joyce, understood to be at native of county Mayo.
He was stabbed to death in an apartment complex close to the Seapoint Amusement Centre.
Garda Greg Flemming of Salthill Garda station gave evidence of her arrest, charge and caution at 10.50 last night at Galway Garda station.
In reply to the charge, Thornton said ‘May he rest in peace’.
Judge Gerard Furlong granted Maura Thornton free legal aid and directed that all appropriate medical and psychiatric assessment and/or treatment be given to her on arrival at Mountjoy women’s prison.
He remanded the accused in custody to appear before the Courts of Criminal Justice court number 2 at 10.30 next Tuesday morning.
