A woman in her 50s was killed in a hit and run in Furbo on Wednesday night.

Gardaí are investigating the collision which occurred between 6.15 and 7.15pm near Pádraicín’s on the R336.

They believe she was hit by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. She was discovered with serious injuries and was pronounced dead in University Hospital Galway a short time later.

The road will remain closed overnight and a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators will take place in the morning.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who has a dashcam and was travelling in the area between 6.15pm and 7.15pm to contact them.

A post-mortem will take place at a later date.
