WOMAN JAILED FOR USING STOLEN CREDIT CARD IN CITY SHOPS
Date Published: 15-May-2008
A South African woman was jailed for 15 months at Galway District Court this week for using a stolen credit card to obtain goods from two city shops.
35 year old, Oriana Bailey of 39 Costa na Mara, Oranmore, pleaded guilty to using a stolen credit card, belonging to an Irish woman on August 30, last year.
Bailey used the stolen card to pay for a pair of boots valued at 225 euro in Brown Thomas and a pair of shoes valued at €150 at Cinders shoe shop, Abbeygate Street.
Inspector Mick Coppinger said Bailey had gone into the shops and had picked out the items she wanted, telling staff she would be back later to pick them up.
She then waited a while before ringing both shops and paying for the goods by credit card over the phone.
She then made arrangements to pick up the goods.
Judge Mary Fahy said credit card fraud was a huge industry and Bailey was part of that industry, before sentencing her to sentences totally 15months.
