Woman in serious condition following M6 crash

A woman in her 60s is in a serious condition in the Mater Hospital in Dublin following a single vehicle crash which occurred on the motorway near Loughrea on Saturday evening.

The three other occupants of the car are in University Hospital Galway.

The collision occurred westbound on the M6 at Ballymabilla, Loughrea at around 6.20pm.

The car, a red Saab, appeared to lose control while travelling approximately 2km west of the Cappataggle toll plaza. The car veered across the motorway colliding with the central median barrier.

The four occupants of the car, two women, mid 60s, and two men, late 60s, were taken to University Hospital Galway. Three of the occupants suffered minor injuries. One of the women was later transferred to the Mater Hospital with serious injuries. She is understood to be a 67-year-old French national.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who was traveling along the M6 motorway at Ballymabilla between 6.10pm and 6.30pm on Saturday  to contact them at Loughrea Garda Station on 091 842870 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111.
