Wolf is the hero in new Baboró dance show

Peter and the Wolf, one of the most famous pieces of music ever written will get a fresh outing at this year’s Baboró Children’s Arts Festival.

The Wolf and Peter, a new show by CoisCéim Dance Theatre will turn the classic story on its head by telling it from the wolf’s point of view rather than Peter’s.

This is the first time that the award-winning CoisCéim has ever staged a production for children and their families, and it’s being done to mark the group’s 20th anniversary.

Peter and the Wolf, a story of courage and imagination, was a musical score originally written as a fun way of introducing children to the instruments of the orchestra.

Since then, it has been interpreted by many artists from Disney to the Marx Brothers. Now it’s CoisCéim’s turn, and on this occasion the story is also being told through the eyes of the ‘Wolf.

“I first heard the music and story of Peter and the Wolf in school,” recalls CoisCéim’s Artistic Director David Bolger. “By flipping the title and allowing The Wolf to be the star, I want to reinterpret this classic in a way that speaks to the next generation, while being respectful to the richness of the original story, music and dance of the past.”
