Date Published: 20-Nov-2008
A witness for the prosecution in a shooting trial has told a jury the accused asked him to lie to Gardai, burn a car and hide a shotgun for him.
P.J. Doherty was giving evidence during the second day of the trial at Galway Circuit Criminal Court of 42 year-old Anthony McDonagh, of 37 Tulach Ard, Circular Road.
McDonagh is denying two charges of being in possession of a shotgun and a shotgun cartridge on April 18th with intent to endanger life at Whitestrand Road, Salthill.
McDonagh also denies a charge of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to 21 year old Martin Ward, that night.
Martin Ward, of Corrach Bui, Rahoon, lost part of his right hand when shot at point blank range with a sawn-off shotgun as he sat in a food delivery van at 10p.m.
