Overnight flood warning issued for Galway

Flooding is expected in Galway overnight, with wind and rain warnings issued by Met Éireann.

“A combination of strong onshore winds, high tides and heavy rain brings the enhanced risk of coastal flooding overnight Monday and on Tuesday morning to exposed coastal areas,” according to forecasters.

Status Yellow wind and rain warnings will be in place from midnight tonight until 2pm on Tuesday, with gusts up to 110km/h and falls up to 40mm expected.

South to southwest winds of 60 to 65km/h, and gusts of 100 to 110km/h are expected tonight and for a time tomorrow.

According to Met Éireann: “Winds could reach higher speeds at times in some exposed Atlantic coastal areas. Heavy rain is expected overnight and on Tuesday morning with falls of 30 to 40mm expected in Connacht, possibly larger values on high ground.”
