Wild Atlantic Way well served by Knock

Ireland West Airport Knock is in prime position to welcome visitors to the Wild Atlantic Way from international locations, according to the chairman of the Western Development Commission, Paddy McGuinness.

Speaking about the importance of the Wild Atlantic Way from a tourism and economic development perspective, Mr. McGuinness said that the vast majority of WWW visitors were from continental Europe – and Knock has regular connections from Germany, Spain, France, UK and Italy.

“Given Ireland West Airport’s location, it is well-positioned to service significant elements of the Wild Atlantic Way route – most airports’ catchment areas are circa two to three hours, so this provides visitors with ample access” he said.

And, referring to recent statements in the national press prepared for Shannon airport marketing committee, Mr McGuinness stated that a balanced approach to serving the international inbound tourist needs of the wider region was required especially when discussing state supports.

The Wild Atlantic Way, launched in February 2014, takes in a 2,500 kilometre route. The route offers visitors a wide range of attractions across nine counties – including over 500 visitor attractions, more than 1,500 activities, including some of the best ‘links’ golf in the world.
