‘Wild Atlantic Way’ auction nets €7m in sales
O’Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers recorded property sales valued at more than €7 million at an all-day ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ auction at the weekend.
Auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan said a number of properties sold for in excess of their Advised Minimum Values.
“It was an incredible auction with a number of properties achieving prices well in excess of anticipation and other where buyers were acquiring exceptional value,” he said.
One of the highlights of the day was 3 Frenchville in the Claddagh, which had an AMV of €375,000, a two-storey semi on a large site. Bidding opened at €370,000 increased in increments of €5,000 up to €450,000.
When the sale looked like it was coming to a conclusion, a fresh bidder entered bidding on the phone with interchanging bids in increments of €5,000 until the hammer fell €590,000.
Another key sale was Lohan’s Bar and Restaurant in Salthill, with four apartments overhead. There was exceptional interest, with bidding commencing at €1 million, and increasing in increments of €50,000. It looked like being sold at €1.4m, but a fresh bidder brought it up to €1.65m. The AMV was €1.15m.
Other properties sold on the day included:
Lisdonagh Cottage, Largan, Headford. The property which belonged to the Australian actress Anne Charleston, who played the part of Madge Bishop in the well-known soap ‘Neighbours’, commenced with bids at €60,000, went up in increments of €2,000 and was sold at €92,000 to a delighted purchaser. The AMV was €65,000.
111 Upper Newcastle Road, Galway. This 4 bed detached property is located directly adjacent to NUIG and has a substantial site. Bidding opened at €340,000 and three individuals chased the property until it was sold at €360,000. The AMV was €350,000.
6 Snipe Lawn, Newcastle, Galway. A 4 bed detached house located in small cluster of homes overlooking a green area. The property attracted five different parties with bidding opening at €330,000 and increased in increments of €5,000 and was sold for €370,000. The AMV was €350,000.
2 Walsh’s Terrace, Woodquay, Galway. A 4 bedroom mid terraced house, described by the auctioneers as the “perfect city residence”, bidding starting at €380,000 and was sold within a period of five minutes at €400,000, which was the AMV.
