Wicklow rock singer for Galway gig

Rock singer Phil Cosby, a man who is not afraid of the brutal or the tender, will play Monroe’s Live on August 23 as part of an Irish tour which will culminate with an appearance at Electric Picnic.

The Wicklow-born, London-based singer takes his audience on a journey through luscious folk ballads to out-and-out rock and roll to driving dance grooves and transient soundscapes.

His voice is clear and soulful, as is his guitar playing. A singer-songwriter at heart, Phil’s lyrical style is reminiscent of John Martyn or Neil Young.

Raised on a farm in Wicklow, Phil’s songwriting skills led him to London, where he became the driving force behind The Pigeon Hole folk club, which was named by Time Out as “London’s best underground folk club.

He has worked with an array of top-class musicians, including legend Phill Brown (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd), and has now released his debut album The Deal, which was released last week.

The album boasts contributions from a list of heavyweight players, including Mercury Prize nominee Jon Hopkins. Phil Cosby will be joined by a full band for his Irish tour which sees him play Monroe’s Live Main Stage on Saturday, August 23, at 10pm.
