Joe and Mairead Rogan, owners of Rogan’s Gala, Clifden, celebrate selling the winning €7.3 million Lotto jackpot ticket.

The 96th Galway winner of the National Lottery jackpot has come forward after buying the golden ticket worth €7.3 million in a Clifden supermarket.

Rogan’s Gala store sold the winning Quick Pick Lotto ticket for last Saturday’s draw and the mystery winner contacted head office on Monday evening.

Arrangements are now being made for their prize to be paid, revealed spokesman Fran Whearty.

“All I have at the moment is that the winner is a Galway player and they have contacted us to verify the ticket,” he said.

Owner Joe Rogan, who only took over the store in the past year, said there is great excitement in the town as locals speculated on who would be taking home the huge prize.

“You have no idea what a big Lotto win brings to the town. There is a massive sense of excitement, delight for the winner and of course a little bit of speculation as to who the winner is, which is to be expected,” he exclaimed.

“Many of our day to day customers are from the local community but given the time of year, there is quite a passing trade with tourists visiting from every part of the country, so it’s anybody’s guess who it could be.”
